Review Korean Reality Show "The Devil's Plan 2"
Hello, I would like to review about reality show, Devil’s plan.
I really love this game from Season 1. So, when I know there is season 2, I’m incredibly happy.
I supposed to write review for Season 1 which is really incredible and interesting but I missed it. However, let’s jump to the season 2. The setting is improved: the main casts are totally awesome people (we barely know some of them who are already famous). And in addition, main casts know there is some hidden clue in the room as it is already expected from season 1.
The thing is the main match and the prison game changes. Winning the most pieces in the beginning becoming crucial, forming alliance is getting higher for people with pieces (majority), while people in prison has death sentence (other than they are already facing not so convenience life ther).
You can see Seo En-yu who is already there for the whole days (6 days) with barely no make-up. The gap becomes wider because the top players keep sticking together to reducing their strong opponent individually (as a big group, what a loser?) and the main match result is not big enough (impossible to increase the pieces for prisoners and turn the table).
I think the big group (majority, the rich one as prisoners always reduce one by one making them the minority), is super heartless as they see the remaining opponent in prisoners are strong player. The first one out is Chuu who is lovely (prison don’t have any mercy as it is about death). Then I was like “why are you making the weak player in the prison knowing they will die???”. How could you imagine a celebrity (Chuu) against the remaining strong player in more science background (particularly Lee Se dol, who is a legendary go player).
The first winner is Hyun Gu, who is already win for the very first time, trying to control the atmosphere. He tried to keep the smart people and leave the weak one, but he abandoned smart people who he couldn’t control. He did it on purpose, he want to make very strong alliance (and accelerate the strong player remaining)and kinda manipulative, but awfully Se dol reject as he want to do it by his own power. I know the game is supposed like this and the situation is really advantageous for him (from the very beginning, so you can easily predict), but you know it is not so exciting when you already know, the mastermind (Hyun Gu) already capitalizes the room. Moreover, some veteran like Kyu Hyun and Tinno join, I don’t think they come to win though, they were just amazed with Hyun Gu and Seon Hu’s ability.
Some rebellion started with 7high and other prisoners’ gang is so wonderful. I think what they’re doing is super reasonable and they respect people. Their bonding is awesome. I was so taken aback, when Jin Young asked, “why is it when Kyu Hyun is eliminated you feel sad, but when you eliminated helpless Se dol and Justin Min, you are such heart less??” (even back then they propose help to Jin Young, but she rejected it super cool! I love her chacter) and Hyun Gu replied, “It is his choice to play by himself” and I was like, “Haah, all of you are supposed to play by yourself”. Because they know only one winner and some want to make alliance while some want to use their own power. Hyun Gu showed me people tend to make things logically to their own preference. I mean, in his preference, people who is not trying to manipulate and cooperate with other people supposed to be eliminated if it is advantageous to share the information (work). But, how come, Justin also tries to cooperate without giving pressure to other people because he thinks for longer-term (this is individual game). While at the end, Hyun Gu ended up crying when Kyu Hyun was eliminated because he tried to win. I mean, he was not completely logical during the game, which is fine, it showed us he is still human.
What I think it is a bit shame is Lee Se Dol was easily killed in the main match because of the capitalism, regardless he is a very strong player. And I was like, why all of them agree on making Hyun Gu the only top player there. It looks the youngsters are really afraid to battle with the legend? while I am much waiting for it. Seeing legend and youngster plays (whoever the winner) will be amazing. It is both good effects, because I mean Hyun Gu and Seo Hui is super smart, it will be fun to see how they encounter a very strong player but they just kill Se Dol instead easily using a very hesitate person of Hyun Joon??). However, I was totally stunned with how Hyun Gu and Seon Hui bring the game and manipulate people. I hope they will not do bad things because they will be really good.
In conclusion, what I can learn about this series is about how the capitalism work and bad system always exist in this world. It is you to choose whether you want to die being a hero or being a devil in such environment. Even the winner himself (who chose to be an evil), I think he is not so satisfied enough for winning the final game. Of course, in my personal opinion it is not a good game, but it is what the devil’s plan is. They keep saying it is fun as they were trying to convince themselves that it is okay and it’s a good game (someone please define what is a good game is?). It is also shown in his final talk as winner that he will live a honest life as he already built up some karma.
